Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have more than one phone on my extension? +
You can use as many phones as you want when using PJSIP or SCCP. You can only have one phone connected via CHAN_SIP at a time however.
Can I use multiple protocols on one extension? +
Yes. You can mix and match protocols on one extension. You can have multiple devices connected via PJSIP or SCCP, and up to 1 phone connected to CHAN_SIP at the same time, on a single extension.
Can I bring my own SIP trunk? +
Yes! You can add it through the UCP, or by contacting administration. Your trunk can be used with both inbound and outbound. And it can be from a provider like VoIP.ms, CallCentric, BulkVS, or another PBX or VoIP system that is accessible from the internet. Please note if you provide your own trunk, you will not be able to use our provided dial-out service. Also, if all your extensions connected to the trunk are offline for a long period of time, your trunks will be auto disabled to save system resources until you come back. A list of recommended providers here.
Can I share my extension with someone else? +
Only when approved by administration. For a specific reason. This includes other household members. This rule is to ensure safety and privacy of users.
Can I have more than one extension? +
for things like fax machines, modems, etc. However, for making calls, we recommend you stick to one extension. The idea is to have one extension for all your phones since these protocols support having multiple devices on the same extension. That way, people know exactly how to reach you, and it saves room for more members. If you need more than 5 extensions, you can request us to up the limit.
Can I use analog/landline phones? +
You can use devices named ATA's (analog telephone adapters). These devices convert VoIP into POTS and work very well. We recommend Cisco/Linksys/Sipura SPA ATAs, however, you can also get ATA's from Grandstream, Obihai/Polycom, and more!
Can I trunk my PBX into my extension? +
Yes. If you have any IP-PBX capable of SIP or IAX trunks, you can register your extension as a trunk and dial-in and dial-out. Examples of IP-PBXes known to be supported are FreePBX, Asterisk, 3CX, CUCM, Avaya IP office, Grandstream UCM, and Yeastar S-Series. If you have an analog PBX or a PBX with an FXO/Line/Trunk port, you can use an ATA.
I want to use a device that requires ethernet but I want to put it in a spot far from an ethernet jack. What are my options? +
The cheapest option most people use are WiFi extenders. Most WiFi extenders have an ethernet passthrough on them. Just make sure to not get an extender that acts as a router, as double natting can cause issues with VoIP traffic and trying to access your device's web config page.
I want to join the PBX but I don't have a phone. How can I join with my smartphone or computer? +
Softphones like MicroSIP, Zoiper, Groundwire, X-Lite, and other softphones all work on the LTS Community PBX. Softphones are apps that let you use your device as a SIP phone. For Windows, we can't recommend MicroSIP more. For iOS/Android, the only option we can truly recommend is Acrobits Groundwire which is $9. Mac Apps like Telephone exist also. We recommend you do research on the best softphone for you.
